Nigerians commend Emir Sanusi over polygamy law proposition

On Sunday, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi said he would propose a law that restricts poor men in the emirate from marrying many wives.
Buttressing his point while speaking at the 50th anniversary
of the death of Ambasador Isa Wali, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, the Emir said he has established connection between polygamy, poverty and terrorism.
He said he would make sure that a law would be passed by the state government to ban such moves by men who would not be able to cater for many wives in loving memory of Wali who was a pioneer advocate for gender equality in the north.
“Those of us in the North have all seen the economic consequences of men who are not capable of maintaining one wife, marrying four. They end up producing 20 children, not educating them, leaving them on the streets, and they end up as thugs and terrorists,” The Emir said.
Nigerians welcome the development.

This is not d mata of ur religious beliv if itz a sin or not is mata of common sense lez kill poverty Emir Sanusi spot On
Emir Sanusi was on track polygamy is not for d poor. One has to be financially buoyant if he needs more wives.
What's the point marrying many wives and having so much children when you can barely feed yourself? Emir Sanusi should be applauded on this.
Emir Sanusi should be encouraged to keep working for the future of northern Nigeria-a task that has been neglected by other northern leaders
Emir Sanusi is taking a bold step to address a problem most leaders in the North are afraid to discuss about .
Emir Sanusi Lamido is one of the few who openly stand up for women and other relatively progressive causes. I'm with him.
Emir Sanusi might turn out to be that person that would push core-Northern Nigeria closer to modernity. https://twitter.com/stephhegarty/status/833637635939823616
