Anambra Assembly summons Obiano’s aides over revenue discrepancies

Gov. Obiano
ONITSHA—The Anambra State House of Assembly committee on transport has summoned the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Internally Generated Revenue, Mr Melie Onyejepu over discrepancies in the revenue generation in the state.

Also to appear before the committee headed by Hon. Edward Ibuzor is a
revenue contractor, Mr Charles Okafor, popularly known as wiper. Trouble started when the permanent secretary of the transport ministry told the committee that the major revenue windows were taken from them and handed over to Okafor through the SSA on IGR.

Following the development, the transport ministry said its revenue generation target had dropped drastically over the years. The committee were not particularly happy that the duties of the transport ministry headed by Princess Chinwe Nwaebili were being usurped by a contractor who had not met his annual target promised Anambra government since he started work. Citing an example of incompetence on the part of the contractor, the committee observed that in 2015, the contractor had a target of N3 billion but managed to rake in N599 million. Consequently, the committee ordered that the revenue windows hijacked from the ministry be returned to it, otherwise their budget would not be passed.
