THE police in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, have arrested four persons including a deaf and dumb in Ubulu-Uku who allegedly murdered a business woman who traded in metal scraps and for also inflicting wounds on the driver of the truck conveying the materials.

Youths from Abuedo quarters of Ubulu-Uku had attacked the woman and the driver with cudgels and other weapons after the vehicle conveying the materials to Obior, the next
community, hit an electricity pole in the community last week.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident and arrest of the youth said the police were on the trail of those suspects who escaped after the act.
Adebayo said “It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous elements are approaching members of the public, particularly highly placed Nigerians both in private and public offices within and outside Nigeria, through text messages, phone calls, and letters purportedly emanating from the governor-elect of Ondo State, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, soliciting for financial support and monetary contributions towards our inauguration ceremonies on the 24th February, 2017.”
“This is a blatant lie and an outright case of fraud, impersonation and obtaining under false pretence. It is embarrassing, fraudulent, wicked, criminal, and irresponsible and a total act of Felony.”
He however called on members of the public not honour such letters, phone calls text messages did not emanate from the governor’s elect.
Adebayo called for the arrest of such criminals while he also called on the member of the public to report such case to the security agents in the state.
“Members of the public are therefore warned to ignore such letters, phone calls, text messages and/or other forms of unapproved and fraudulent communications to this effect.
“Nigerians are also advised to report any and all such cases to the Police for investigation, possible arrest and prosecution.”
The lorry conveying the metal scraps from Umuokwe quarters in Ogwashi-Uku was said to have hit the electricity pole, thereby disconnecting power in some parts of Abuedo.
The situation reportedly angered the youth who gave the lorry a hot chase and caught up with it.
Community sources told Metro that the youth held the vehicle hostage before allegedly attacking the deceased whom they beat to a pulp using various weapons.
“It was in the process of the beating that the woman collapsed. But some Good Samaritans rushed her and the driver of the lorry to a nearby hospital where she eventually gave up the ghost and her remains deposited in a morgue,” a source said.
